No, I lie, it's not the moon, it's my brilliant idea of how to get a photo of the mysteries fishes which showed up out of nowhere in the upper pool. I can't get good photos of them, especially the gray one, because they blend in with the background. So yesterday it occurred to me that I could put a dinner plate at the bottom of the pool and then the fishes would be visible against the dark background. Problem with this plan: The fishes in the upper pool are very skittish and avoid the new object, probably because they realize that it makes them more visible. In marked contrast to the fishes in the lower pool, which are always near the surface when I'm around and begging for food and don't seem shy at all. So I left the dinner plate in the pond overnight, and I was surprised to see how much muck had deposited on it by the next morning, and also that there were interesting lines and dots in the muck, perhaps caused by snails and raindrops. Last night I dreamt that I saw two gray fishes swimming across the shallow area between the middle and upper pools ... Grammar note: The automatic editor for this blog does not recognize the irregular simple past tense of the verb "to dream". As a passionate member of the society to preserve and promote the use of irregular English verbs, I am deeply disturbed.
