We have a family of turkeys in the neighborhood who spend a lot of time in my backyard (probably because I was too busy to mow this summer.) There is a momma turkey and six babies, rumor has it that there were many more but they didn't all make it. They are also fans of the pond, although thankfully they limit themselves to drinking and don't try to swim in it. The local bird population bathes in it regularly, and the raccoons sometimes go in the pond and mess it up, I'd like to get a picture of them, they are afraid to put their faces underwater so the fish have successfully avoided them. I've been told by my friends in Berkeley that their raccoons eat the roots of the lily pads out of their ponds, but probably those Berkeley folks have fancy exotic lilies that taste better than the native variety or else their raccoons are smarter because our raccoons didn't dig them up. We had a pack of coyotes congregate at the pond a couple of years ago when they were terrorizing the streets of the city, no sightings so far this year, maybe they don't like the rain.
